With hearts building, fist-pumping-printing, this week’s show expresses a world where love is the most potent bullet. Grassroots, collective artivists Melanie Cervantes and Jesus Barraza share with us their passions for art as a medium of community building, their experience as intersections in the legacy of militant printmaking, and their plans to open a neighborhood studio in Cuba! We blessed the show with Sade’s new track “Soldier of Love” because that is exactly what Melanie and Jesus’ collective Dignidad Rebelde is all about. Peep their prints, and you’ll instantly get it.

Our show is also a jubilant send-off as our dear friend and co-host Z Note departs for the bright horizon to explore the country and eventually conquer Grad School! Be sure to send your love and positivity to Z Note as he embarks on a great adventure—as we have with our selections for this episode.

While you enjoy the tracks I also recommend checking out Taller Tupac Amaru, and Eastside Arts Alliance—as Dignidad Rebelde are part of this network of Oakland soldiers who not only cut away at the inconsistencies of our social fabric but reconstruct an environment that improves the quality of life for bountiful community.
