I’m a self proclaimed explorer, currently thriving on the concrete streets of San Francisco. An urban enthusiast with a strong penchant for the built environment, I find beauty in what the ruminations of a city produces. This can come in the form of an abandoned warehouse filled with art from the heart, sightings of brave souls taking back the streets from billboards, bicyclists fighting climate change, heart disease and angry motorists. It’s also apparent in the diverse musical offerings provided by a pulsating, live city. On any given night, you can roam the city and hear hot sticky funk breaks in one spot, boom blapping dubstep at another, and some sweet, fresh amalgamation mutating from both at a third.
My relationship with music is complex; constantly growing, evolving and moving across the globe. Music enables me to travel the world through my headphones. I’ve always loved music’s ability to teach me about the world, and how we truly all influence each other. It convinces me that my pre-conceived notions about disco and Balkan beats were uneducated. I just needed music to open my earholes to the magic of universal sound. We curl up in bed, hang out at cafes, dance at clubs and chop it up on the radio waves. Sometimes music and I fight about the direction music is going but usually it redeems itself with some Fatima, Little Dragon or Flying Lotus.
Find me climbing up a rock wall, stretching my artistic limits with ladders and plastic beads, writing up on urban policy, exploring cities on a bike and here, of course, livin it up on Sanguine Soul Radio.
